Bartoletta, 34, Says Age Will Not Determine Her Fate

By Doug Binder, DyeStat Editor

In the wake of Tuesday's news that the Olympic Games has been unmoored from the scheduled 2020 date and is going to be held in 2021 instead, drew widespread reaction from athletes around the world.

Rather than a once-every-four-years chance to shine in front of a global audience, the span of time between Games is now five years.

For athletes who are already in their 30s, that could change some retirement plans.

Tianna Bartoletta blogged that she would not let her age become a death sentence to her track and field career. Bartoletta won a gold medal in the long jump at the 2005 World Championships and more recently earrned the bronze medal in the 2017 World Championships long jump.

She was returning from off-season surgery with a confident outlook on making the 2020 Olympic team.
